Viticulture Pioneers

From trial plantings of 5 varieties, we now have 6000 established vines with a yield of up to 17 tonnes of fruit. Weather conditions at critical times such as
fruit set are our main challenge, overcome by strategically planted wind breaks. Guinea fowl roaming throughout the vines provide good pest control. Vines are mulched with organically rich natural mulch.
From the establishment of the vineyard –erecting trellising and planting vines through to pruning, harvesting and bottling we have been helped by a supportive community. Over time people have become familiar with the process and our annual ‘Music in the Vines’ is a ‘thank you’ to them all.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Our Cabernet Sauvignon has spent 18 months in French Oak. It has strong, clear colour and exhibits superb varietal character with blackcurrant and dark chocolate undertones. This Cabernet is bound to impress the sceptics who say Tasmania does not have the conditions to grow a great Cabernet Sauvignon.
Pinot Noir
Our Pinot Noir is a light bodied red wine with fresh cherry and plum aromas. It is perfect as an accompaniment for game meats such as Flinders Island wallaby or lamb. It also matches well with venison and wild duck.
Chardonnay
We have both a wooded and an unwooded version of this highly popular variety. Our unoaked (unwooded) style is light and crisp and a perfect accompaniment to a fish, chicken, veal or creamy pasta dish. The wooded Chardonnay is a perfect accompaniment to Flinders Island Crayfish!
Sauvignon Blanc
A very lightly oaked during fermentation version of the extremely popular variety. The grassy, herbal characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc are retained with a light oak influence. This style is known as 'fume blanc'. It makes an ideal accompaniment to shellfish, which are in plentiful abundance on Flinders Island. We also have an unoaked version for those who prefer the fruitier style.
Riesling
Highly acclaimed by James Halliday in 2006, our Riesling has continued to impress. Crisp, fresh and aromatic, our 'dry' riesling has become very popular with wine drinkers who do not enjoy the sweeter style but are pleasantly surprised at what our Riesling offers. Perfect for Asian foods.
